Carolina Herrera Fall 2020 ready-to-wear
As I was gathering designers, for the New York fashion week overview, I became conflicted about Carolina’s brand. I wanted to include it but it didn’t fit the aesthetic, and overall feeling of NY fashion week, that I wanted to focus on. Being someone who has had an enormous influence in my style I couldn’t go without mentioning Carolina’s brand. She didn’t just change the way I looked at clothes but she also designed dresses that fit all ages. Her dresses were for every woman, weather you were in your 20’s or 50’s, she had a way of creating pieces that felt like they were made for you.
In 2018 Carolina stepped down as creative director and handed her title over to Wes Gordon, who has added a unique personality to the brand. Gordon has built upon what Carolina was known for but he also added structure, bold colors, tulle, big sleeves and even bigger skirts. It’s safe to say Carolina left her brand in good hands, the designs aren’t subtle but they embrace class and femininity while staying young and playful.
Carolina’s brand is delicate, feminine and timeless. Made for every woman, the designs are created for the public in mind.
Full of soft fabrics, tailored power suits and chic dresses that one could wear on a daily basis, it truly embodies the meaning of ready-to-wear.
My favorite look, from Carolina’s last show in 2018, consisted of a 3/4 sleeve silk blouse and high-waisted silk maxi skirt paired with silver boots that accentuated the pattern on the tigers.
I couldn’t live without it, but coming in at $3k, for the blouse and skirt, I had to opt out for an ‘inspired’ dress from Zara. A girl’s gotta stay in her budget.
Maybe one day I’ll be able to grace the streets of Seattle in a Carolina Herrera dress, but until then I'll have to find new and creative ways to incorporate the brand’s image into my wardrobe. After all, you don’t need designer dresses to exude elegance.
