Missoni Fall 2020 Ready-to-wear
As creative director, Angela is the gold medalist for New York Fashion Week. Missoni, unfortunately, isn’t a brand I am familiar with. This is my first time experiencing their designs, and it did not disappoint. I’ve never experimented with over-sized suits, let alone ones for the colder months. A couple of weeks ago I purchased my first wool blazer. It’s an item I’ve always seen but never one I thought would look good on me. The only time I ever saw them styled was through Instagram influencer accounts. There’s nothing wrong with that, but to me, it lacks diversity. Everyone styles them the same, there’s no sense of personality. Ahhh, am I being mean?
When I can’t visually picture myself styling an item I don’t buy it, I know it’ll just hang in my closet, slowly making its way out of sight. I bought a wool blazer without knowing how to wear them, though. I justified it because I got it at my local thrift store. If you’re ever on the fence about a piece I suggest going thrifting. Sometimes it might be the same price as buying a new piece from H&M but trust me, most of the time, the quality will be so much better. I got mine at $4 so I really couldn’t pass it up.
This brings me back to this collection, and yes I’m going to talk about texture, it’s interesting, to me at least. If you’ve read my previous post on Gucci you’ll know that I’m a sucker for deep v-necks and boy-oh-boy did this collection make me swoon.
The shoes. The one-piece that can create the best outfit. Can’t decide what to wear? Start by picking out shoes and let them decide. When it comes to straight shaft knee - high boots, you will find massive rows of leather boots, that lack diversity, or colorful prints that are - let's face it - overwhelming.
It’s the same structure. The seam patterns, buckles at the ankle and changing it up with a little pattern, but the base is always the same. There’s no personality. Don’t get me wrong, I still think they’re a great thing to have in your closet, sometimes you need simplicity in your wardrobe, but it doesn’t mean you can’t make them interesting.
This collection pretty much does it for me. The ruffle detail on the toe and heel are - you guessed it - the best way to add texture and personality to this boot.
The one that draws me in the most is the top right look, adding white and black to enhance the movement of the ruffles. Once they’re available I might get myself a pair. The shaft is slim but wide enough to tuck a nice fitted pant. They bring the ruffles into the sandals as well, lining the right of the shoe, it might seem a little more fancy but the height of the heel gives you the option of dressing it down. Before I get carried away let’s move on to the rest of the collection.
The color selection for this collection is really interesting to me. The way the pastels are incorporated into the natural orange - browns - blacks is seamless. It adds a soft contrast, staying away from assigning colors to seasons, without making the outfit confusing and cold. It’s refreshing. It adds a sense of light to an otherwise dark collection.
The suits - who doesn’t love a nice suit - are relaxing, easy to wear and considering how oversize they are, still very feminine. The patterns match the fabric choice and compliment the accessories - the hats are to die for. Having big curly hair hats are usually not something I gravitate towards. The sheer size of these hats makes me want them all - besides the shoes - they are a great way to add excitement to an outfit.
The accessories that graced this year’s fashion week is nothing less than impressive. I’ve never fallen more in love with gloves. Maybe it’s just me, but trying to find somewhat stylish gloves for the harsh winters is almost impossible. I love these so much, another option for making a statement and they’re practical, it’s perfect.
- I’m obviously in love with the outfits -True MVP of this collection? Accessories - that includes the shoes.
